Parent Schedule

This tentative schedule is for parents and guests. If you are a student, please visit the student schedule page. 

Day 1 - NSO Overnight Basecamp Parent / Guest Schedule

9:00 A.M.

Program starts

You can drop off your student by the Westvaco Natural Resources Center. No parking pass or validation is needed. We do NOT provide breakfast, so your student should eat before arriving.

Question & Answer Session

After your student checks in, join us for a 30-minute Q&A.

5:30 - 7:00 P.M.

Parent Reception

This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other WVU parents and get to know some of WVU’s administrators as well! This is a parent-only event.  The reception is an informal, come and go event. Appetizers will be served and a cash bar will be available. 

While at the Evansdale Crossing, you can also visit the Mountaineer Hub, which is our centralized location for Student Account payment, Financial Support and Services, Scholarships, Academic Information and Student Employment. The Hub will be open Monday-Thursday until 6:00 p.m. to meet with parents.

The reception will be held at Panini Pete’s in the fifth floor lounge at Evansdale Crossing, 62 Morrill Way, Morgantown, West Virginia.

Optional Activities

While your student is at NSO Overnight Basecamp, we encourage you to explore the area.

Outdoor Activities

  • Take a Canopy Tour. Tours start at 11:00 a.m. and cost $30 per person, plus tax. Please register in advance.
  • Take a hike at Coopers Rock State Forest.

    Suggested Hikes:
      • Visit The Overlook, and hike Underlook Trail.
      • Visit The Overlook, then hike Eagle Trail to Ridge Trail, Ridge Trail out to Shelter #4, then take Rattlesnake Trail back to Underlook Trail, and take it back up to Shelter #1.
      • Hike the Hemlock Loop Trail, on the North Side.
      • Hike the new loop around Trout Pond, 1/4 mile from the I-68 Coopers Rock Exit.
  • Take a hike at the Core Arboretum
  • Take a hike at White Park.
  • Explore the West Virginia Botanic Garden.
  • Walk, run or cycle on the Caperton Rail Trail.
    • You can rent a bicycle from Wamsley Cycles 304-296-2447

Indoor Activities

Day 2 - Orientation Parent / Guest Schedule

7:30 A.M.

Shuttle begins

When you arrive at the Coliseum, you can go to the Coliseum Blue Gate and board the University bus that will take you to the Mountainlair Student Union and return you to the Coliseum at the end of the day.

The buses transporting your student from the Outdoor Education Center to the Mountainlair will make a stop at the Coliseum if you would like to meet there to unload your student's overnight materials and store them in a car.

8:00 A.M.

Check-in/Meet your student

You will meet your student at 8:00 a.m. at the Mountainlair. As Day 1 of the NSO Overnight Basecamp program is a phone-free experience, we encourage you and your student to make a plan for where to meet up (especially if you are holding onto your student’s phone). If your student leaves their phone with us, we will return it as they get on the bus to the Mountainlair (around 7:30 a.m.). 

The buses will also make a stop at the Coliseum if you would like to meet us there to unload your student’s overnight materials and store them in a car.

Experience an introduction to the Mountaineer family and discover what is in store for your day.

9:10 - 9:40 A.M.

Campus Life and Housing Q&A

Learn about where your student will be living on campus, including information about move-in, student services, campus safety and other initiatives to make sure they succeed. If your student is commuting, your session will focus on resources to help them stay connected to campus.

Leaving from the Mountainlair Ballrooms

9:45 - 10:20 A.M.

Financial Support and Services

Concerned about paying for college? We will discuss resources, cost of attendance, billing and payment options, and answer any questions you may have about the process.

Mountainlair Ballrooms

10:20 A.M. - Noon

Academic Presentation

Meet with representatives from your student's academic college or school and hear what to expect in their first semester. You will be given the tools to make sure they are on track for graduation and prepared for their future career.

Leaving from Mountainlair Ballrooms

Noon - 1:00 P.M.


Free lunch?! Enjoy a meal on us at one of the Mountainlair restaurants. From burgers to sushi and salads to pizza, we have options for every eater.

First Year Seminar for Families and Guests

This session, designed to ensure you receive vital information through a classroom experience, outlines what to expect over the coming months to help your student transition seamlessly to WVU. It will also cover the resources that will help your student be successful, including Career Services.

Information Fair

Get to know the student services that will help your student transition to WVU. It’s a great place to reunite with your student!


After 3:00 P.M.

Done for the day?

Take a shuttle back to the Coliseum, the Student Rec Center or check out Evansdale Crossing and the Mountaineer Hub, your centralized location for Student Accounts, Financial Support and Services, Scholarships, Academic Information and Student Employment!
