This tentative schedule is for students. If you are a parent or guest, please visit the parent / guest schedule page. 

Day 1 - NSO Overnight Student Schedule

4:30 P.M.

Check-in (for students taking ALEKS math placement assessment)

Your guest(s) can drop you off in front of Lincoln Hall’s main entrance. If you are driving yourself, overnight parking is provided across the street from Lincoln Hall at the Erickson Alumni Center.

Upon checking in, you will receive your room key and a welcome letter. At this time, we will also pair you with a roommate for the evening. If you are attending NSO with a friend who is also attending WVU this fall, you can request to stay together during check-in.

4:30 - 5:30 P.M.

Welcome

Welcome to WVU! Grab a snack, meet your fellow classmates and Orientation Leaders who will guide you through the night’s programming. Orientation Leaders are current undergraduate and graduate students who will be your resources for any questions or concerns you may have throughout the evening.

6:00 P.M.

Take the ALEKS math placement assessment

The ALEKS math placement assessment is the best way to get placed into your major-recommended first semester math course. Those students who need to take ALEKS in order to place may do so at this time. Orientation Leaders will take you to the testing location on our Evansdale campus.

7:00 P.M.

Check-in (for students not needing to take ALEKS math placement assessment)

Does your major not require a math course? Are you already placed into your recommended math, based on your major requirement? You can check-in to Lincoln Hall at 7:00 p.m., receive your room key and get paired with a roommate at this time.

7:30 - 10:00 P.M.

Rec Center tour, games, prizes, food and more!

Experience all that our Student Rec Center has to offer with access to the indoor track, basketball courts, rock climbing wall, swimming pool and more. You have time to explore the different options available to all of our students, as well as participate in group games and activities. Light refreshments will be available.

10:00 P.M.

Floor meetings with Orientation Leaders

Wondering what it will be like to live on campus? To close out the evening, you will meet with your Orientation Leader in small groups to discuss campus life, why you chose WVU and what to expect your first year. When you live in a residence hall, you can expect to have a floor meeting at least once a month.

11:00 P.M.

Lights out and quiet hours

Your scheduled programming is now over. You are more than welcomed to play games in the common area, socialize with other new students or read a good book in the Lincoln Library. However, we suggest heading to bed early — you have a long day tomorrow!

Day 2 - Orientation Student Schedule

7:30 A.M.

Shuttle begins

Buses will depart from the front of Lincoln Hall and take you to the Mountainlair Student Union for day two of NSO. If you have a guest joining you, they will meet you at the Mountainlair for check-in. 

Please feel free to leave your luggage in your room while you attend NSO. Your room will stay locked until you return to retrieve your personal items. Please check out and return your key to the Conference Services staff at the front desk by 5:00 p.m.

7:45 - 8:30 A.M.

Check-in

Upon checking in, you will receive a name tag, lunch ticket and other materials. Please wear your name tag throughout the program. Be sure to have your photo taken for your Mountaineer ID Card!

8:30 - 9:00 A.M.

Welcome

Experience an introduction to the Mountaineer family and discover what is in store for your day.

9:10 - 10:15 A.M.

Campus Life and Housing Q&A

Learn about where you’ll be living on campus, including move-in, student services, campus safety and other initiatives to make sure you succeed. If you are commuting, your session will focus on resources to help you stay connected to campus.

Leaving from the Mountainlair Ballrooms

10:20 A.M. - Noon

Academic Presentation

Meet with representatives from your academic college or school and hear what to expect in your first semester. You will be given the tools to make sure you are on track for graduation and prepared for your future career.

Noon - 1:00 P.M.

Lunch

Free lunch?! Enjoy a meal on us at one of the Mountainlair restaurants. From burgers to sushi and salads to pizza, we have options for every eater.

Course Registration

Meet with an academic adviser to register for your first semester classes!

Get to know the student services that will help you transition to WVU. It’s a great place to reunite with your guests!

Done for the day?

Take a shuttle back to Lincoln Hall to retrieve your belongings, the Student Rec Center, Coliseum or check out Evansdale Crossing and the Mountaineer Hub, your centralized location for Student Accounts, Financial Support and Services, Scholarships, Academic Information and Student Employment!
