Parent Schedule

This tentative schedule is for parents and guests. If you are a student, please visit the student schedule page. 

Day 1 - Honors NSO Overnight Parent / Guest Schedule

4:30 P.M.

Check-in

You can drop your student off in front of Lincoln Hall's main entrance. Upon checking in, your student will receive their room key and a welcome letter. At this time, they will also be paired with a roommate for the evening. Their night will include taking the ALEKS math placement assessment, a Rec Center tour, activities, games, prizes, food and more!

7:00 P.M.

Check-in (for those not needing to take ALEKS math placement assessment)

Does your student’s major not require a math course? Are they already placed into their recommended math, based on their major requirement? They can check-in to Lincoln Hall at 7:00 p.m., receive their room key and get paired with a roommate at this time.

Additional Activities for Parents and Guests

5:30-7:00 p.m.  Parents Receptions, Hosted by the Mountaineer Parents Club at Panini Pete’s in  Evansdale Crossing

Parents and guests are invited to attend a Parent Reception while you are on campus for New Student Orientation. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other WVU parents and get to know some of WVU’s administrators as well! Appetizers will be served and a cash bar will be available. The reception is an informal, come and go event for parents only.

Free parking is available at the WVU Student Recreation Center for this event.

Want to shop for the latest WVU gear? The WVU Bookstore will be open Sunday-Thursday for all of your WVU spirit wear needs!

 

Until 6:00 p.m. – Mountaineer HubEvansdale Crossing

The Mountaineer Hub is your centralized location for Student Account payment, Financial Support and Services, Scholarships, Academic Information and Student Employment. Still need to pay a deposit? The Mountaineer Hub will accept cash, checks and online credit card payments until 4:45 p.m.

*Please note: the Mountaineer Hub will be open until 6:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday ONLY. Mountaineer Hub is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.


Attend a show by the West Virginia Public Theatre

  • Young Frankenstein: June 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17

  • You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown: June 29, 30

All shows are at the Creative Arts Center in the Gladys Davis Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Show your New Student Orientation confirmation and receive a 30% discount! The passcode is New Student 17.

Day 2

7:30 A.M.

Shuttle begins

Buses will depart from the front of Lincoln Hall and take your student to the Mountainlair Student Union for day two of NSO. Please park at the Coliseum, take the University shuttle and meet your student at the Mountainlair for check-in. They can leave their luggage in their room while you all attend NSO. Their room will stay locked until they return to retrieve their personal items. Please have them check out and return their key to the Conference Services staff at the front desk by 5:00 p.m.

7:45 - 8:30 A.M.

Check-in and Breakfast

Upon checking in, you and your student will receive a name tag, lunch ticket and other materials. We will also provide breakfast during this time  – make sure you grab some coffee!

Welcome

Experience an introduction to the Mountaineer family and discover what is in store for your day.

9:10 - 9:40 A.M.

Campus Life and Housing Q&A

Learn about where your student will be living on campus, including information about move-in, student services, campus safety and other initiatives to make sure they succeed. If your student is commuting, your session will focus on resources to help them stay connected to campus.

Leaving from the Mountainlair Ballrooms

9:45 - 10:20 A.M.

Financial Support and Services

Concerned about paying for college? We will discuss resources, cost of attendance, billing and payment options, and answer any questions you may have about the process.

10:20 A.M. - Noon

Academic Presentation

Meet with representatives from your student's academic college or school and hear what to expect in their first semester. You will be given the tools to make sure they are on track for graduation and prepared for their future career.

Noon - 1:00 P.M.

Lunch

Free lunch?! Enjoy a meal on us at one of the Mountainlair restaurants. From burgers to sushi and salads to pizza, we have options for every eater.

First Year Seminar for Families and Guests

This session, designed to ensure you receive vital information through a classroom experience, outlines what to expect over the coming months to help your student transition seamlessly to WVU. It will also cover the resources that will help your student be successful, including Career Services.
